Skip cutting threads. Skip the shovel. Typical repairs done in 5 minutes.
Best case: it fits inside a routine pullback window. Worst case: even a full closure skips the shovel, the digging around the can, and the re-terminated wiring — just the nut plate and a few minutes.
The nut plate system is the same device for both base types — the only thing that changes is what's mounted on top of it.

Stripped bolt hole repair is one of the most common maintenance calls on either base can type. The usual fix means drilling, reaming, and tapping on-site — or pulling the can entirely and redoing the electrical. The nut plate system skips both.
If a bolt has sheared off inside the tapped hole, drilling out the stub may still be required — the nut plate system eliminates the re-tapping and can replacement that would otherwise follow, not the stub removal itself.
Whether a repair can be performed during a pullback operation versus requiring a full closure depends on each airport's own operations policy.
The nut plate repair device is approved by a Florida-licensed Professional Engineer as a structural repair for L-867 and L-868 airfield light base cans.1
1 Component-level PE structural certification per generally accepted engineering principles and FAA EB-83A bolted-joint methodology. Full FAA AC 150/5345-53D equipment certification testing is not applicable, as that program governs complete base can assemblies rather than discrete repair components.
